Welcome to Expert English Tuition

Welcome to Expertenglishtuition.com. I’m glad you’re here.

This English teaching website has grown from a tiny seed of an idea I had back in 2020, just after our year 10 pupils came back to school following that first, long period of isolation.

While it would be more than a year before I left mainstream teaching, it was as our dearly missed children started to come back to school that I really noticed how the blanket rules in place for children, which had posed challenges for some, had completely liberated huge numbers of other children.

Away from the classroom, these children had been able to work quietly and undisturbed, felt brave enough to email questions when they would never have raised their hands, they took risks with their learning because they were working at home where they were comfortable and relaxed.

There were other children who had benefited too. The children who felt pressure from their friends to perform, or who had thought themselves ‘naughty’ and now found it difficult to break out of the pigeon hole had worked really hard at home. While their work was being done away from their peers, safe on their sofas or at their desks, they could really focus for the first time. At home, they could have the tv on if it helped them, or they could snack while they worked. It was magnificent to see them blossom like this and we were so proud of them.

As the term tripped along, we produced resources in all sorts of formats for our children but some of them simply performed much better when they were learning at home. We saw children, once again, not raising their hands to share their thoughts or to ask questions. Sometimes we saw children just not managing not to come to school at all.

There were two more periods of home learning after that, as well as times when year group bubbles had to work away from the building. Each time, we saw the same results. Most of our pupils who found school to be too intense or triggering an environment, absolutely thrived at home.

It seemed clear that in order to enable as many children as possible to continue to thrive, recorded lessons were the answer. They could rewatch them, put subtitles on and pause them as often as they liked.

Pre recorded lessons have proved to be really helpful for students with neuro-diverse conditions or who are affected by anxiety or school phobia. I left mainstream education in July 2021 before moving to France in 2022 where this is now what I do. I level playing fields. I help children who find school challenging to do really well in school.

I create recorded lessons to walk children through GCSE English Language and Literature skills and content and I offer 1:1 and small group tuition, all via Zoom.

If you have a child who you think would benefit from this kind of input, please use the Contact Us form to get in touch with me. I’ll be happy to arrange a 15 minute chat to hear about your child’s learning journey and take things from there.

I hope to hear from you soon and, in the meantime, happy learning!

Laura
